7 Points Regarding Change

  1. People will feel awkward and ill at ease during a change effort.
  2. People will think first about what they have to give up.
  3. People will feel alone even if everyone else is going through the change.
  4. People can only handle so much change.
  5. People are at different levels of readiness for change.
  6. People will be concerned that they don't have enough resources.
  7. If you take the pressure off, people will revert back to old behaviour.


Conditions for Successful Change

  1. Trust
    Person assisting change is trusted and is highly regarded by those changing.
  2. Strongly felt need
    The person changing feels strongly of the need to change.
  3. Self Esteem
    The change plan acts to increase the self esteem of those changing.
  4. Anxiety is Managed
    Example: by support, training, patience, listening, review of progress and plans.
  5. Involvement
    Both those initiating and implementing change need to work together to increase commitment to change.
